Historian • Curator • Museum Leader • Public Scholar
Paul Gardullo creates exhibitions, books, and global initiatives that explore American and African American history, public memory, slavery and freedom, and the Black Atlantic world.
As a founding curator of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, Gardullo has helped build collections, exhibitions, and collaborations that connect scholarship, cultural heritage, and public life.
His work brings together historians, artists, museums, and communities across the Americas, Africa, and Europe. Together, these projects illuminate how the past continues to shape contemporary understandings of culture, identity, and belonging while building new connections among institutions, scholars, and communities that might not otherwise work together.
